A singular archive-based practice structured in three economic layers — public shop, limited editions, institutional commissions
Speculative Lab
Lab Editions
is not a shop.
It is the editorial infrastructure of a singular practice — one that operates on Venezuelan memory through archive, typography, and speculative cosmology. The infrastructure is replicable. The practice is not.
Built in the Speculative Lab. Operating since 2025.
The work
Three operations, one object.
Helicoide. Parque Central. Autopista Caracas–La Guaira. Modernization as unfinished promise.
Images rewritten as text. Pixels mapped to characters. The grain becomes the caption.
AI-generated apparitions — the tapir on the highway, the four powers — resurfacing what the modernist project tried to bury.
The book Venezuel(t)raum is the test piece. Two editions circulate publicly; more are in production.
Data, when returned to form, is an act of memory.
Three layers
Digital editions and a few physical works — watermarked PDFs, numbered fanzines, originals on request. Not the revenue engine. The entry gate. Each download carries the buyer's identity; every purchase is a trace.
Status: operational since 2025. Running on Gatsby + Stripe + personalized PDF watermarking.
Numbered runs of 30–50 copies. Four-layer structure: acetate with typography over architectural silhouettes; fine-art paper with the archive image; translucent sheet with television glitch; backing paper with a 50-word micro-essay. Each layer reveals another. The reader decides how deep to go.
Status: in production. Sancocho as the first format prototype.
Commissions from museums, archives and cultural foundations — bringing the method to other bodies of material. Workshops for artists working at the intersection of archive, typography and generative systems. Residencies where the practice becomes research.
Status: open for conversations. luis@nvgstudio.de
The infrastructure
The public shop (layer 1) runs on a stack that any artist or studio could deploy. The method above it (the three operations) is not replicable — it is a specific position in a specific tradition. The infrastructure is open; the practice is singular.
Payment
Stripe direct. No platform fees.
Delivery
Watermarked PDF on each download — buyer's name and email embedded.
Physical works
Inquiry form with bilingual auto-reply. No stock, no algorithm. Direct conversation.
Who this is for
Not a general tool.
A specific address.
The Venezuelan diaspora
The intellectual audience that recognizes Helicoide, Parque Central, the TV grain of the 1970s, the failed modernity. The ones who left carrying the images.
